What's New At Waycom

Welcome to the What's New page.

Here we will try to keep you updated on what's happening around our place.

  • 11/13/01 - 21:08:00 = Webmail Interface Added
A webmail interface has been added to the main Waycom™ website. This will provide Waycom customers access to their email anywhere they have internet access available. This service can be accessed via the menu button on the left labled "WEB EMAIL".

  • 02/15/01 - 12:00:00 = News Services Returned
News services have been less than great over the last several months. As of today Dan is now managing the news services personally. Hopefully this will provide Waycom™ customers with better news services. The servers are new and will take some time to get them to operate at peak performance. At this time the news servers are running very well and are handling about 40,000 newsgroups.

  • 02/12/01 - 03:12:00 = Check Your Due Date
A web interface has been added to the database at Waycom. You may now access your own account information by simply clicking on the "ACCT INFO" button located in the menu to the left side of main Waycom™ web pages. Simply enter your username and password as you use for your dialup access.

  • 02/05/01 - 07:08:00 = MPP Now available on ALL lines
With the addition of new terminal services Waycom™ is now able to allow MPP connections on both digital and analog dialup lines. It is even possible to connect one modem to the digital servers as well as one to the analog servers simultaneously. More information is about MPP is available here.

  • 01/27/01 - 03:22:00 = Use Of Terminal Window No Longer Required
The use of the terminal window to access all of the Waycom dialup servers is no longer needed!! Thanks to changes that have been made in operating systems of the equipment that is used here for dialup access, we can contimue to use the more secure Unix Authentication and not require the use of a terminal window.

  • 08/09/00 - 18:30:00 = Image Storage For Use With Ebay™
Temporary storage space is now available for images of items that you are selling on auction sites such as eBay™. These images can be accessed through a URL and are available through the web-servers here at Waycom. For more information about this service please see the Image Storage Information page.

  • 07/24/00 - 21:12:00 = Web-Servers FrontPage 2000™ enabled
All web-sites that are hosted on the servers of Waycom are now FrontPage 2000™ enabled. If your web-site is currently hosted at Waycom you may begin using FrontPage 2000 Features immediately. While we have supported Front Page since 1998 we have just upgraded all the servers to use FrontPage 2000 extensions allowing our customers maximum flexibilty in with their hosted web-sites.
This service is NOT available for user web-pages.

  • 12/26/99 - 21:30:00 = MPP Connections Available
Since the phone company will not cooperate in upgrading local equipment allowing 56K connections, we have decided to provide service that exceeds 56K and still works within the limits of the existing hardware in Wayland. More information is available here.

  • 11/22/99 - 19:20:00 = New Dialup Server Now In Use
The new dialup server has been placed into operation. The new T-1 has been configured to offer dialup service to Waycom Customers. Unfortunately, thanks to the limitations of Ameritech and the old equipment that they refuse to replace here in Wayland, we are still not able to offer ISDN Service.

  • 10/13/99 - 03:09:00 = New Router Installed
An Ascend MAX-4000 was installed to accomodate the increasing services provided at Waycom. The MAX-4000 will allow multiple T-1 connections as well as provide additional dialup services in the near future. Right now there is a wait on Ameritech to bring in two new T-1's to Waycom. One of these T-1's should allow us to provide ISDN service in Wayland, Dorr, Martin, Moline and Hopkins. These services are not currently available at all in these areas. This equipment will also add aditional Dialup Lines for customers. The anticipated ratio of users/line will decrease to about 4/1. This is the lowest ratio that will be found at Any ISP.

  • 05/12/99 - 17:15:00 = More Phone Lines Added
More phone lines have been added to accomodate yet more customers who are making their home on the net at Wayland Communications.

  • 12/03/98 - 12:21:00 = ISDN Service Added
ISDN and Dialup service to the Grand Rapids area has been added. Unfortunately these lines have Grand Rapids phone numbers because Ameritech has not upgraded our network switch here in Wayland. This addition will allow customers to dial in from the Grand Rapids Area though.

  • 08/21/98 - 19:30:00 = Firewall Added
Due to recent attacks on the servers here at Waycom by people out on the internet, I have added a firewall to the network here. Currently the firewall is open to all commonly known software and should not prohibit traffic from any of this software.

  • 04/18/97 - 15:21:00 = More Phone Lines Added
After carefully watching peak usage times, we found periods of up to 24 minutes of these periods where all lines were full. To keep things here so that you very rarely see get a busy signal when you are trying to dial Waycom, we have added more phone lines.

  • 02/06/97 - 03:21:00 = News Server Added

As more and more people join Waycom™, we strive to make connections as good as we can. Though we are still not operating at the industry standard of 10 users for each line ( we are operating at about 7.2 users per line ), we have added more lines. These new dialup lines are K56-Flex compatible.
