So, have you ever wondered what all those things were that started with "httpd://"? Well, those are hostnames (internet addresses) for places for you to visit. If you are reading this now, you have at least a start in getting on to the "World Wide Web". The WWW is just one part of the internet, an easily accessed form of "point and click" access. This works based on the HTML format developed for the Help System in Microsoft's Windows user interface system. If you can make your way through the help files of Windows 3.1 or Windows 95, you can navigate the WWW just as easy. This method does not require that you be one of those "nerd" types with the pocket protector, 15 ink pens and a floppy disk in your pocket. Those are the people that write these things to make it easier for you to navigate the expanses of the World Wide Web. How do I get started? We recommend that you start with our homepage of course. If you got here then you probably are well on your way to web-fame and fortune by clicking your way to success. Since you are here Look toward the left side of this page, you will see a "button" that says search. When you are ready to let the WWW feel your presence you may want to press this button first. There are some explainations for some of the stuff there. This will take you to an area of our homepage that will allow you to look for "links" to sites that have content pertaining to your favorite subject. A link is an area on a webpage that is "hot". This means that by clicking on some portion of text (usually a different color from the rest) or a button or sometimes even a picture or symbol, some form of action will occur. You will be magically (only nerds understand how this works so don't ask, we're very shy you know) taken to a different webpage or suddenly be asked where you would like to store the program that you have asked to download. To see how links work I have one added into this paragraph. The link is to one of our favorite starting places on the web. The place is affectionately known to all WWW users in just a short time as Yahoo. This is a great place to "launch" all your searches from. Well, did you find it? The word "Yahoo" is one of those hot links. You will notice that when you put your pointer over the word, the pointer changes to a little hand with the index finger extended. When your pointer looks like this you simply need to press the left button on your mouse and you will be magically trnsported to where you want to go. One more note before you go off into wonderland. Remeber that some sites on the internet are overloaded, and will handle your request slowly. Rest assured that you have a fast connection with Waycom. We can't account for the other end being slow unfortunately. When you visit a site like Yahoo that is properly maintained you will find that it operates quite well.
