Outlook Express
Email Setup

Outlook Express can be set up in just a few moments to send and recieve email through your Waycom email account.

You will need a little bit of information in order to setup your email program. You will need to know your username, password and the name of the mail server that you need to access to send and recieve email. All of this information can be found on the setup sheet that you received when you signed up for your account at Waycom.

To setup Outlook Express, first open the program by clicking on one of the icons that are used to start the program, or go to your start button and then choose Programs>Outlook Express. Please take notice of the version that is in use when the splash screen (first small box) opens. You should be running a recent version such as 5.50 or 6.0. Once Outlook Express has opened look along the top on the toolbar for the "Tools" selection. Select Tools and then select "accounts" from the dropdown list. This should open the accounts manager.

In the accounts manager be sure that the tab at the top that is selected is "Mail". Now you should see a list of all of your email accounts that have been setup within Outlook Express. If there are accounts listed in the white area, it is expected that you know what these are. If not you should delete any other email accounts that show up here by using the "Remove" button on the right side of the account manager window. Next you will need to click on the button labled "Add" which will open a dropdown box where you will need to choose "Mail", This will start the Internet Connection Wizard.

First you will need to enter your name as you would like it to appear on your email, then press the Next button. Next fill in your email address. Your email address is "your username @waycom.com". If your username was imauser, your email address would be imauser@waycom.com . Once you have filled in this information, click on the next button. This will take you to where you will need to enter informaion about the servers.

Your incoming mail server is a POP3 server. Both the incoming mail server and the Outgoing mail server need to be set to "mail.waycom.com" (do not use the quote marks). Double check what you typed and then click on the "Next" button.

On this screen you will need to enter your username and password. This is the same username and password that you use to access your dialup account. Please remember that your username and password are in lower case. Do NOT select the box at the bottom for using Secure Password Authentication.

When you click on the "Next" button you will get a confirmation telling you that you have finished. Now close the Accounts Manager window. You can now press the "Send/Recv" button at the top to send and receive your email.

There are a number of other settings that can be adjusted within Outlook Express so that it will operate the way that you like. Please go through them and set the program to work the way that you want.

Please remember, sometimes people send large email file attachments. While we try to protect you from the over zealous who send huge files that take hours to download, there are some users who need to be able to accept larger files. The current size limit for any one email message sent to anyone at Waycom is 3 Megabytes (3000 Kilobytes). Should someone send you a large email you will need to be patient. Files of this size take a long time to download. On average if you have just 1 message that is 1 Megabyte in size, and are on a 33.6 Kilabaud connection you will most likely need at least 20 minutes just to download the one message.
